DIY Eucalyptus Shower Steamers (No Citric Acid!)
If you’re like me, winter basically equals congestion, coughing, and constant colds (thank you, students 🙃). These DIY shower steamers are amazing for tossing into the shower and breathing in that eucalyptus scent for a little natural congestion relief. They’re also great for stress relief and self-care at the end of a long day!
The best part? No citric acid needed. Just simple pantry ingredients, a few drops of essential oil, and about 10 minutes of hands-on time. The longest part is letting them dry!
This recipe makes around 12 smaller shower steamers, but if you only want a few, just cut the recipe in half.
Supplies You’ll Need
Essential Oil (I love eucalyptus for colds & congestion)
Baking soda
Cream of tartar
Cornstarch
Witch hazel
Step-by-Step Instructions
Step 1: Mix Dry Ingredients
In a bowl, combine:
1 cup baking soda
¼ cup cream of tartar
¼ cup Epsom salt
1 tablespoon cornstarch
Give it a good stir so everything is evenly combined.
Step 2: Add Essential Oils
Add a few drops of your eucalyptus essential oil (or another scent you love).
Amount is personal preference—use less for mild scent, more for strong aromatherapy.
Step 3: Add Liquid
In a separate small cup, mix:
1–2 tablespoons water
1 teaspoon witch hazel
Slowly drizzle the liquid into your dry mix while stirring.
You want the consistency of wet sand—sticky enough to hold together, but not soupy.
Step 4: Mold Them
Firmly press the mixture into your silicone molds. Pack it tight so they hold their shape.
Step 5: Let Them Dry
Let your shower steamers dry 1–2 days, or until they pop out easily and feel solid.
How to Store & Use
I keep mine in an airtight container in the bathroom so they’re ready to go.
My family loves them so much that they’re gone fast—and luckily they’re so easy to make!
To use:
Place one steamer on the floor of your shower (not directly under the water stream), and let the steam release the scent for congestion relief or stress relaxation.
Tips & Variations
✨ Store in an airtight container for freshness (especially in humid bathrooms).
✨ For DIY gift baskets, switch up oil blends! Some fun combos:
Eucalyptus + Peppermint (sinus relief)
Lavender + Chamomile (bedtime relaxation)
Sweet Orange + Vanilla (uplifting mood)
These make super cute, high-end looking self-care gifts without the cost.
Great for Mother's Day, teacher gifts, winter wellness baskets, or spa-themed presents!
Hope you love this easy craft!
Don’t forget to pin it for later so you don’t lose it 😊
